Seeking the ****** Bunny

My friend Lance sent this item to me today. He requested that I comment on it, so here goes.

I suppose this is what happens when you're the dominant religion in a secular society -- your traditions and holidays get adopted and secularized by the society at large. Not too many Gentile families gathering 'round the holiday menorah, nor non-Muslim families fasting during Ramadan. Really, if anyone should be objecting to the pagan origins of the Easter Bunny, or the fact that the nation celebrates the Resurrection with even more gluttony than usual, it should probably be Christians.

What I don't get is people complaining about Christian symbolism at Christmas time or (apparently) around Easter. I suppose that's also part and parcel of dominance, although -- interestingly -- it seldom seems to be adherents of other faiths who object. It may just be my perception, but the loudest complaints most often seem to come from atheists. I really don't understand objecting to other people celebrating something you don't believe in anyway. I can't decide if it's intolerance in the interest of some skewed idea of diversity, or if it's some kind of insecurity.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go indulge in some chocolate-covered hypocrisy. ;-)
